Music Theory Stage 2: Creative Harmony & Function is an intermediate music theory course designed for musicians who want to move beyond basic harmony and unlock the real creative power of chords and reharmonization.

In Music Theory Stage 1, you learned the foundations of music theory — scales, intervals, chord construction, harmony, rhythm, and musical expression. In this intermediate stage, you will learn how professional musicians reshape harmony using advanced reharmonization and harmonic color techniques.

This course explores the art of taking ordinary chord progressions and transforming them into something deeper, richer, more emotional, and more sophisticated.

You will learn powerful intermediate and advanced harmonic concepts such as:

  • Secondary dominants
  • Tritone substitutions
  • Modal interchange and borrowed chords
  • Chromatic reharmonization
  • Backdoor dominants and Neapolitan harmony
  • Chord extensions and added-tone harmony
  • Pedal tones, bass movement, and voice leading
  • Suspended chords, altered harmony, and sequential reharmonization

You will also discover how harmony creates emotional impact through tension, release, movement, and color.

Unlike traditional theory courses that focus only on memorization, this course is built around practical musical application. Every concept is explained musically, creatively, and in a way that can immediately be applied to songwriting, arranging, improvisation, composition, and modern music production.

By the end of this intermediate music theory course, you will hear harmony differently, analyze music more deeply, and confidently reharmonize melodies and progressions using professional-level harmonic tools.

If you want your music to sound more expressive, cinematic, jazzy, modern, or emotionally powerful, this is the stage where that transformation begins.
